Abu Dhabi University launches region first BA program in Game Design

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi), Abu Dhabi University (ADU), and the French institution Rubika have forged a collaboration to introduce a pioneering Bachelor of Arts program in Video Game Design. Set to debut in the next academic cycle, this initiative marks a crucial step in advancing the emirate’s creative sector.
Signed by Saeed Ali Al Fazari, Director of Strategic Affairs at DCT Abu Dhabi, Professor Ghassan Aouad, Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University, and Dr. Stephane Andre, CEO of Rubika, the agreement cements a tripartite alliance aimed at blending top-tier academic instruction, direct industry involvement, and international expertise. This fusion is designed to cultivate a skilled workforce for the region’s fast-growing gaming and interactive media fields.
Saeed Ali Al Fazari remarked that launching the region’s first Game Design degree aligns with DCT Abu Dhabi’s objectives of strengthening cultural and creative industries while inspiring young talent. He emphasized that providing aspiring game designers with exceptional education and practical training would fuel the gaming sector’s expansion both locally and globally, nurturing a strong talent pool and enhancing their prospects in Abu Dhabi.
DCT Abu Dhabi, through its Abu Dhabi Gaming initiative, will ensure deep industry engagement via structured internships, mentorship programs, and links to local game studios. Additionally, the department has committed to funding up to 140 scholarships over six years, making the program more accessible.
Rubika, an esteemed institution specializing in animation, digital arts, and video game design, will oversee academic frameworks, faculty development, and curriculum guidance. The school will also offer international exchange programs, integrating global expertise into Abu Dhabi’s education landscape.
Dr. Stephane Andre expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that Rubika has long sought a trusted collaborator in the UAE. He highlighted the institution’s mission to establish itself in culturally rich regions, encouraging students to harness their heritage in shaping global gaming and animation narratives.
Abu Dhabi University will host the program, ensuring compliance with national accreditation standards while fostering an educational experience rooted in creativity and innovation.
Professor Ghassan Aouad reaffirmed ADU’s commitment to delivering academic courses tailored to the UAE’s innovation goals. He noted that this collaboration bridges education and evolving industry demands, equipping students with specialized skills that enhance their career prospects domestically and internationally.
