PlaySide Studios and Fumi Games have unveiled the major voice talent behind the small but formidable lead in their upcoming film noir-style first-person shooter, Mouse: P.I. For Hire. Troy Baker known for roles in The Last of Us and Death Stranding will lend his voice to Jack Pepper, the mouse detective at the heart of the story. The reveal was made during Summer Game Fest, alongside the release of a new game trailer.

Troy Baker, renowned for his dynamic voice performances in The Last of Us and Bioshock Infinite, takes on an unexpected but compelling new role as a hardened, battle-scarred mouse navigating a brutal, rodent-sized underworld. This gritty tale explores themes of survival, loyalty, and revenge, with Baker lending his signature emotional depth to a small hero in a dangerous, oversized world.

“I’ve been keeping an eye on Mouse: P.I. For Hire ever since it was first announced,” Baker shared in a press release.

“The game’s visual style, mechanics, and 1930s noir vibe keep pulling me in.”

Though it draws inspiration from classic animation, reminiscent of Cuphead, PlaySide Studios has emphasized that Mouse: P.I. For Hire isn’t taking the easy route. They’ve described it as “gritty.” The game is set in Mouseburg, a city hiding a dark underworld in “a world where danger hides in every tiny mouse hole.”

ABOUT THE CHARACTER

The character voiced by Baker, Jack Pepper, might have an adorable appearance, but his past is anything but soft. A former soldier turned private eye, Jack has seen his fair share of hardship. The game begins with him looking into a classic case involving a damsel in distress, but it quickly becomes apparent that there’s more beneath the surface. What starts as a simple investigation soon pulls Jack into a treacherous web of mystery, corruption, and murder.

“I’m thrilled to continue collaborating with the team to fully bring Jack Pepper to life,” Baker said. “I’m excited to share more as we get closer to the game’s release!”

Mouse: P.I. For Hire is scheduled to launch on both console and PC in 2025, though an exact release date hasn’t been revealed yet.
