Minecraft Announces a New Dimension for the First Time in Over Fourteen Years!
The latest Minecraft livestream ended with the announcement of the biggest update feature in over a decade! The sift a new dimension is coming to vanilla Minecraft sometime in 2027 and here’s everything we know so far.
The Sift
The Sift is in no way similar to the End, Overworld, or Nether. It is extremely colorful and vibrant, being primarily made of pinks, blues, and greens, but below the surface it has been hinted that there are also darker and more mysterious parts to it. There will be things called shifting tides that could affect each player differently, including your character and the things around you, however we don’t know their exact mechanics yet. As for additional features, the dimension will have a day and night cycle, along with a new liquid called ichor, which is made of souls and will deal damage to the player.
As for biomes so far there are two confirmed ones: the Meadows, also known as Singer’s Meadow, is one of the areas in the Sift. It is incredibly colorful, with fruitful vegetation: pink grass, white Sift trees, and more. Then there’s the Carapace, a desert-themed biome with structured walls built of blue stone, heavily topped with sand. It will also be filled with ancient fossils and bone structures. As for its mobs, it’s home to a new hostile creature, the Humbler Husk. This mob and information is associated with Minecraft’s “Minecraft Dungeons 2.”
It’s also rumored that you can get in by playing a certain melody in the Ancient City using its portal.
Overall, the impressions seem to be very positive, with fans being thrilled about the first giant Minecraft update in a while. It’s also unlike anything the game has ever had and leaves room for much intrigue.

How Can You Experience it Beforehand
If you’re hearing all of this and thinking you can’t wait until the update is out, well, the Sift isn’t just coming to vanilla. There will be a game, Minecraft Dungeons II, coming out tomorrow, September 29, with the Sift as the game’s centerpiece.
The game starts off with the Illagers (the Prime Enchanter, Supreme Evoker, and Grand Illusioner) discovering a portal that leads to the Sift. It was filled with souls sharing their power, and the Illagers’ greed took over, so they stole this power to try to take over the Overworld. They started tearing up rifts in the Overworld leading to the Sift, and before long the Overworld will be upturned unless heroes rise up.
The rifts in this game act as mysterious portals scattered across the Overworld that transport players into the Sift, this new, beautiful, uncharted dimension. It’s assumed there will be many similarities to the Sift in vanilla Minecraft, with the major difference being in gameplay, such as the story, quests, gear, co-op, etc.
Other New Additions
The Sift wasn’t the only thing announced at Minecraft Live. The next update will be ice-themed! Ice caves will spawn under snow biomes, mainly made of calcite, ice crystals, and icicles. Ice crystals emit a soft light and spawn naturally on ice cave floors. Icicles spawn in clusters at the top of ice caves, but proceed with caution around them, as enough light from torches or other sources will cause them to fall down and impale you.
There’s also a new mob, a frozen zombie variant that sometimes spawns with an ice ball, and the damage from that ice ball depends on attack speed. Getting hit by these zombies also causes you to get the Freezing effect. Ice balls picked up from frozen zombie attacks can be used to make Freezing potions, which damage and slow you down.
There’s no confirmed release date yet, but it will be out for testing soon.
The Sift is an exciting update that adds a whole new dimension to Minecraft and leaves plenty to wonder about. Alongside it, the upcoming Ice Caves bring a new zombie variant and a fresh type of cave to explore.
